TEAR Fund a Christian relief and development agency has a special gift for life catalogue. The catalogue is filled with gift ideas that benefit the poorest around the world. You purchase the 'gift' and receive a printed or e-card to give to family and friends whilst the poorest of the poor around the world receive the benefit of that gift. You can purchase pigs, goats, immunisations, wells for villages, dams for Niger, sanitation systems for poor communities. Make a real difference this year - think Gift for Life - www.giftforlife.co.nz.

There are millions of poor families in Asia who have no hope of making it out of the loop of poverty. You can change that by giving gifts in the name of Jesus to them such as pigs, chickens, cows, water buffalos, sewing machines and much more. Often these families are so overwhelmed by the tangible love of Jesus that changes their lives that they receive the Lord as their Savior. Here's the website:

Great gift idea - almost free too! It's called a jar of thank yous. First you need a jar, obviously:). Then on strips of paper you write whatever it is you want to thank someone for. I recommend using different colored paper, confetti or ribbon to decorate. You could even cut the strips with some of those funky scissors. The great thing about this gift is you don't have to have a crafty bone in your body, just the desire to tell someone how much you appreciate them! Enjoy

Micro financer Kiva.org has wonderful gift certificates. This is a wonderful way to help others in the world, but it leaves the control of the money with the person you're giving the gift to. They may decide to withdraw the cash when it's ready, but they again, they may just want to let it roll over to another person in another country after seeing the impact it's had. One could get them for nieces and nephews or instead get them for Christmas 2008 a year early so they have time to get their $ back in time or even early (this may also help to send the message that next year you're planning on doing Christmas a little differently). It could be even more relational to sit down with them and help them choose a business to sponsor.

Samiratan's Purse also has a great gift catalog to purchase gifts for someone else who may already have everything. It also helps people in other countries, who may have little or nothing this year. Also, when you visit the stores in your neighborhood and there is a bell ringer for Salvation Army--why not get them a hot cup of coffee or chocolate. God Bless and may this be the year we bring Christmas back to the focus of CHRIST! Thanks for bringing this message to the world.
